Welcome to Provide & Protect

You are about to start a journey that will have great importance to you and your family. In fact, the first chapter has the title "Important Life and Death Decisions." I know you will enjoy this trip through the estate planning process. You will travel through four sections of this book: "You & Your Family," "Your Contacts & Healthcare," "Your Finances" and "Your Estate Plan." "You & Your Family" is a great place to start. You will learn how to pass benefits to children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other family members in ways that are truly helpful. The final section on the family letter shows how you can share essential information with your loved ones and also close with a family blessing.

"Your Contacts & Healthcare" is a critical area both during life and for your estate. You need to be sure your advisors are prepared to make crucial decisions for your care if you become incapacitated. If you have minor children, you will want to learn how to select reliable guardians and trustees to provide for them.

One of the most popular sections is "Your Finances." Understanding property ownership methods and listing all of your assets are essential for good planning. Only after gathering your property information will you be ready to make key estate planning decisions.

Finally, with careful efforts you may accumulate a substantial estate. "Your Estate Plan" explains many planning options. I know you will enjoy a new understanding of the different estate strategies that can provide so many benefits to your family. You may be interested in a plan to help family and also benefit one or more charities. Several plans allow you to take care of both your immediate family and the larger family of friends and those in need served by your favorite charities.

After each article, there is a true-false quiz. The answers to the quizzes are available in an online "Wills Planner." The web address for the "Wills Planner" is on the cover of this book. If you visit that web address on your computer and select "Plan Your Will," you will have an opportunity to set up a free "Wills Planner" account and then view the answers. I encourage you to take advantage of this great service and to make the best use of this free "Wills Planner."
